While we are waiting on reviews to come back from the various magazines and websites we’ve contacted, I thought it would be cool to get early feedback from fans and friends who actually pre-ordered & downloaded the new record before its official release date.
I tend to trust what friends say about new records more than any other source anyway — because I know my friends have high standards. (Ahem…Matthew and Cason….ahem…)
I sent out an email and the response back from folks was great. Thank you to everyone who participated.
Here are some of the highlights:
Recovery: A Review by Brent Thomas
Thoughts on Recovery by Jim Porett
Two Fish Illustration’s Blog
Ron Davis Blog’s Recovery
Recovery - post by Rob Osborn
The mighty Clyde from California and his thoughts on Recovery
Jud from Ohio’s blog post featuring his feedback
Also of note:
Our freelance writer friend, Jenni Simmons and I recently had a lengthy interview/conversation which we’ll post here in the coming week. Lots of detail and backstory into the making of the record and the creative process.
Have a great weekend.

How many times have
You heard someone say
If I had his money
I could do things my way
But little they know
That it’s so hard to find
One rich man in ten
With a satisfied mind
Once I was waitin’
In fortune and fame
Everything that I dreamed for
To get a start in life’s game
Then suddenly it happened
I lost every dime
But I’m richer by far
With a satisfied mind
Money can’t buy back
Your youth when you’re old
Or a friend when you’re lonely
Or a love that’s grown cold
The wealthiest person
Is a pauper at times
Compared to the man
With a satisfied mind
When my life has ended
And my time has run out
My friends and my loved ones
I’ll leave there’s no doubt
But one thing’s for certain
When it comes my time
I’ll leave this old world
With a satisfied mind

I can’t stand them and there are men remodeling the house next door to us and for some reason they are blasting Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me” while they work.
It’s awful. So so so so so so so so bad.
Someone please make it stop.

Good morning….
I’ve been going pretty hard since we got back from San Diego doing recording and production with some artists I’ve been working with. It’s been a grueling set of days but we are making progress and I’ve got some time to write.
Between booking for the fall and getting my new record out there (and reviewed etc…) I’m keenly aware that I’m trying to do three things at the same time and it gets a little nutty. I’m thankful for all the work I have though so maybe it’s just a period of adjustment before I get used to this new season I’m in.
I’ve been waking up earlier (6 am) and then going to bed later. Averaging 6 hours a night or so. I’ve also been running quite a bit which feels great. Helps with the craziness to just go work it all out of my system with a run.
I run down to the stadium where the Titans play and listen to U2 remixes on my ipod while I workout. I like to pretend I’m Bono. Usually (but not limited to) when I’m listening to the “Elevation” remixes (there are three of them and they are all killer). It helps to have heroes…
Things are busier than they’ve ever been for our little family and I hope I am being a good leader through all of this. Work, family time, work, meals, prayer…work. That’s the rhythm here and I know there is grace for all things.
Truth is - I love what I do. But I am not what I do.
So I guess I am trying to hold fast to some sort of balance while being busier than I’ve ever been with lots of good work to be done and much to be thankful for.
I’m especially thankful for Kierstin and Eli. I don’t deserve them.
Or grace for that matter.
But I have all three.

Just a quick note to those of you who are overseas and have been trying to order from the store — we are working on fixing the problems with shipping calculation.
It should be resolved in the next day or so and we really appreciate your patience.
We will post here once the issues have been fixed.

Well, the summer is off to a roaring start.
Kierstin, Eli and I drove to South Carolina to meet up with my parents and brothers for a family get together at Pawley’s Island. It was great to get away and have some down time with the family… we played Chess, Risk, Poker and shot a lot of pool.
I bought a fishing pole from Wal-Mart and caught a couple fish and a few crabs. Eli took his first dip in the pool and seemed to love it.
Just a totally relaxing, lazy set of summer days. Sometimes it’s hard to slow down but I’m always so thankful afterwards for the chance to rest. I took a few books but hardly opened them at all. It was that kind of vacation….lots of talking and goofing off.
We got back home to Nashville late last night after a 10 hour drive. Stopped in Greenville, SC to visit Brannon McAllister and the Portland Studios guys…what a cool group of people. I’m a huge fan of their work. (See some of the links in my blogroll.)
Anyways, it’s great to stop and look around, take it all in. So in a couple days - our little trio of a family will do it all again but this time we’ll be in San Diego visiting with Kierstin’s side of the family. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone and I’m personally looking forward to eating my mother-in-law’s italian cooking.
After we get back I’ll dive straight into some production work I’ve got going with a few different artists I’m working with. I’m also rehearsing, booking and planning for fall concerts.
Fall shows will start in late August and go through November. I’ll post more about this later. If you are interested in a concert, please email us.
I think that’s all for now. Kierstin and I have sort of been catching our breath and pausing to let the batteries recharge. Recovery is finished, printed and shipping out. I know I said this in my last post, but we’re really thrilled with how everything turned out with the record and it’s packaging and are especially excited about all the feedback we’ve been getting concerning this new collection of songs. We’re sending it out for review in a number of different magazines and websites and hope to have those for you soon. (We’ll link to them.)
Got any magazines/websites you would recommend for reviewing Recovery ?
We’d love to hear your thoughts if you have any favorite sources for reading about new music. Just leave a comment.
Thanks for your friendship and support. Talk to you soon.

Recovery is now available on eMusic and Rhapsody music services. Just wanted to pass that information along so that you can tell your friends, neighbors, sisters, brothers, mother, fathers, ex-girlfriends…you get the idea.
iTunes is taking a little longer but it’ll be up in the coming week or so.
We’re so excited about all of this — I can’t even tell you! We’ve been getting emails and phone calls from both friends and strangers who have given us great feedback on the new material. It’s just really encouraging after having worked on this thing for so long to finally have it out there for people.
So thank you very very very much.
Have a great weekend.
